What if trying to drink less ended with not wanting it at all?
For thirty years I was a dedicated professional drinker. Not a good one, but persistent. Four lost jobs, a first marriage, whole weekends gone. Two ultimatums from my wife, and a Christmas party I don't remember one minute of.
I tried white-knuckling it. Six miserable months, undone by one beach vacation.
All I wanted was control. Two drinks and done. Instead I got not wanting it at all, plus some help from a direction I never saw coming.
Now I still go to the fish fry, the tailgate, and the bar on a Saturday night. Alcohol just doesn't come up anymore. Kind of like bananas. No white-knuckling. No missing it.
This isn't a program. It's my story. Where you land, a Wisconsin few or none at all, is your call.
